500ml swingtop bottle at Brauereiwirtshaus Sanwald in Stuttgart. Ruby black colour. Off-white, mostly lasting foam. An aroma with dark chocolate and floral hops. Creamy sweet palate with coffee, chocolate, herbs and roasted malt. Smooth, but a bit watery impression (23.04.2006).

50 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Dark brown colour with a little white head. Nice aroma of light and smooth roastedness and hints chocolate. Also smooth and light roasted flavour. Very drinkable.

Clear Dark Brown pour with ruby hints. Tan Head - Cola …. Lots of malt. Minor hints of hops. … .. Metallic notes, somewhat bitter finish. .. .. Light, smooth mouthfeel. .. .. OK Schwarzbier. Nothing too special. Not bad, but not inspiring

Elegant packing holds a quite strong beer. It has average 4.9% vol. alc. but it feels stronger. Has tasty cream, and a neat smell. The aftertaste isn’t quite strong as expected, which might be good if you dislike having the taste of beer long after the drinking. Overall: nothing special, yet another good dark beer.

Bottled (swing-top). This tough little sucker kicked my ass. Very dark brown, essentially black pour that’s ruby under light. Meager little brown head, too-heavily carbonated. Roasted malt and caramel aroma. Tasty! Heavily roasted, nutty taste with some hoppy bitterness. Very hoppy for a dark beer. That roasty flavor is intense, there’s a little bit of grass from the hops. Typical Schwarzbier ash / slag is thankfully absent. Finishes dry and slightly harsh. Temporarily numbed the fore-center of my tongue. Love the guy pictured on the label, he sure looks like he knows he Schwarzbier. By no means complex (see the velvety Köstritzer), nonetheless a credit to its style.

Poured beautifully, with a nice head on it, I was suprised with the bitterness of this one, it had some nice roasty, malt flavor, but bitterness dominated my palate. I like bitterness, so it was ok for me, but the brew seems abit unbalanced, ok, but was expecting better.
