Commercial Description:
Brewed from Carared and Melanoidin malts specially kilned for us in Bavaria. The distinguishing feature of this delicately balanced beer is its unique red hue. There is an estery aroma, slightly peachy with redwood undertones, brought about by controlled fermentation with a bottom fermenting yeast. The sweet honey malty burst quickly gives way to the classic noble hop flavours imparted by Hallertauer Mittelfrüh hops, also from Germany.

Draught at Macquarie Hotel, Sydney. A reddish brown with disappearing white head. Nose is stunted and not getting much at all. Lightly toasted malt, caramel and a touch estery. Very sweet mouthfeel. The finish is astringent. The balance is not good.

Draught at Australian Beer Festival, Sydney. Bronze bodied with ruby highlights, offwhite head. Aroma of caramel and nutty malts, hint of red fruits in the background. Clean, moderately lean body. Relatively high carbonation. More nutty, caramelly, almost chocolatey malt on the body. Hints of plum and berry fruits towards an unexpectedly bitter, dry finish. Nice lager, don’t get many like this and it’s quite a treat to have it well made.

Reddish hue and then cordial raspberry tastes. A little too sweet and cloying berries for my tastes but interesting nevertheless.

Draught at the Schwartz Brewery (4.9-5.1%). I let this one warm up for a good 30 minutes prior to tasting. Arrived a reddish bronze with a small, creamy, off-white head which was average lasting. Aroma was malts with roasted nuts, sweet toffee, brown sugar, oak and a subtle fruitiness (blackberries?). Flavor was a very light bitterness with sweet biscuity malts, tart berries (blackberries and cranberries), hints of golden syrup and a nutty/woody finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry/creamy mouthfeel and a good finish.

Tried on tap at the Schwartz Brewery at the Macquarie. More amber than red with no head retention. Medium body with sweet caramelized notes, a little meaty, not cloying but almost.
