Tried at the Macquarie Hotel. Orangey copper body with no head. Candi sugar taste, fairly sweet with not too much else going on. Was hoping this would be good but didn’t turn me on at all, in fact it was a struggle to finish it, thought it might have been all the beers I had earlier in the day but the ones after this went easy enough.

Draught at the Schwartz Brewery. Arrived dark golden orange with a slight haze and a dense, frothy, off-white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of sweet/sour bready malts with apricots, bubblegum, coriander, lemon zest and some vanilla. Flavor was of dry/sour bready malts with banana/clove notes, orange zest, light pear notes and a spicy finish (coriander, pepper). Very well hidden alcohol content – seemed more like 4.5 – 5%, reasonably refreshing for alcohol content. Medium bodied with a dry/creamy mouthdfeel and a decent finish. Pretty fair pricing on an Abbey Dubbel (particularly for Sydney) - around $5 per schooner.
