Draught at the Schwartz Brewery. Compliments from the brewer. I had a chat to the brewer about this one and it is actually a herb/spiced ale, flavored with: lemon myrtle, grains of paradise (an African spice), orange rind, cloves, coriander and occasionally ginger, most of these where prominent and contrasted well in the brew . Arrived hazy golden orange with a small, frothy, white head which was average lasting. Aroma was of musky wheat/yeast with banana lollies, orange peel and some coriander. A slightly sour/tart bitterness (a good one) with sweet yeasty/bready malts, orange peel, coriander, cloves and hints of lemon zest. Medium bodied with soft to medium carbonation (oddly enough), a quite creamy mouthfeel and a great finish. A great herb/spiced wheat beer, my favorite from the Schwartz brewery, I highly recommend it!

Draught at the brewpub. Clear golden, small head. Light orangey/spicy hop aroma. Dryish with clean, sharp mouthfeel. The salty bitter finish has notes of metal. Unbalanced.

Well, it’s got a great name... otherwise I’m not so sure. Juicy sweetness, perhaps a bit of wheat malt, quite bitter with a lot of corn chip flavour. Tastes like a megalager; they can’t be using a wheat yeast, unless being served at -1C drives away all the yeast character.

On tap at the Olim’s Hotel (Braddon, Canberra!). Tasty, refreshing wheat with clear sweet clove flavours. Nice hazy yellow, reasonable head but a tad too sour on the finish for my concept of the ideal hefe.

A well-made Aussie hefeweizen. Looked good in the glass: a hazy yellow with a thick, lasting head. The serving temperature inhibited the aroma (couldn’t pick any banana at all) but there was plenty of wheat and a tart, lemony character. The expected banana notes emerged in the flavour when it started to warm. It’s otherwise quite citric and sour in the finish - really gets the juices flowing. A good summer quencher, I’d say. Palate was a little too fizzy and on the thin side. (On tap at the brewpub)

on tap at the brewpub although it took a while to find where you could actually get their beers. slightly murky yellow, come banana and clove aroma, a little sticky and sweet but with some pleasant tart wheat to balance it out. not a bad effort

Tap at the Macquarie Hotel, Sydney. By far their best beer. Cloudy yellow color with a decent white head. Nice banana aroma, with some wheat and other spices. Apparently they didn’t know you could put a lemon in your beer. Goes down nice and smooth. Sweet taste, tangy as well. I drank many of these one night. One of the better beers I’ve had in Australia.
