tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 26, 2008 Sweet caramel malt character with some boiled cabbage noted in the nose. Clear, deep brown body topped by a low tan head that recedes to ring with some lace. Brown sugar-like sweetness is cut by strong tea-like tannins. Some light orange and bread-like flavour in the aftertaste. Bitterness is quite restrained. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle sampled at Oakes’ Xmas tasting 2007.
Oakes (6966), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 19, 2007 Light brown sugary colour. Malty with rich sugars, toffee, and light nuts. Smooth palate and a kiss of brown sugar in the finish. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 18, 2007 Mahogany with no head nor lace. Smells like unfermented wort with caramel. Strong roast and caramel malts in the flavor with a bit of brown sugar. Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 17, 2007 An aromatic malty beer with some hop bitterness at the end that cleans the finish. Metallic macro aromas but some breadiness there that tastes comforting. MoritzF (3883), Ruhrpott, Germany Apr 9, 2007 (bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a small, frothy off-white layer. Sweet, toast-malty aroma with notes of caramel, honey and a light herbal hoppy blend. Sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Good malty base with caramel and a light herbal spicy note in the background.; moderately sweet toasty finish with a delicate roasted and hoppy bitterness. Not a very complex but likeable Bock.
