| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Light efferescent german malts, partenered eventually by noble hops, soft easy bready malt taste, hops that taste like pekoe tea, and an easy bitterness that takes you to the finish. No complaints, pleasant enough session brew bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA

poured a dark brown with a thin head. malty lager aroma. flavor is slightly sweet and bready with a bit of nuttiness slightly bitter finsih (noble hops). I don’t think I’ve had a real german alt, before so i don’t have much to comapre too. this is ok, but not great.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2007 The bottle looks not really good, but also not bad. The beer in the glass looks good. The aroma is very complex, a little bit alcoholic. The flavor is modest malty, not too dry, spicy - very drinkable. One of the best altbeers I’ve drunk up to now. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 .5 L swing-top bottle, straight-sided lager glass. Dark brown pour kicks up a thick rocky head. Rich malty smell of a dark German beer. So far, what’s not to like? Taste is also pleasing. High brown malt quotient, like brown bread, in fact. Hop spiciness carries hints of white pepper and caraway, slightly more hopped up with Nobles than the usual German beer. A very occasional "peanut shell" oxidation note, but for an import bottle that’s come all this way, it’s held up much better than so many imports I’ve tried. Finishes with a vague idea of chutney. Definitely worth seeking out.
