| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 13, 2008 The bottle looks good, but not spectacular. The beer is very dark, fine foam. The flavor is dry, somehow "hard", not really balanced, metallically. Not a good beer. HighlanderOne (545), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA

Red / amber clear body, average foamy white head, fully disappearing. Light bitter, short duration. Rather light body, dry & watery texture, flat carbonation. Nothing special... jwdevalue (158), Neptune, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 19, 2007 16.9 oz. bottle. Nice, almost dunkel-like aroma features milk chocolate, raisin, and plum scents. Softer and less sharp aroma than I usually experience in the Vienna style. Strong smell for a lager. Pours a clear, sparkling, effervescent deep gold to light amber color. Small to moderate amount of light beige head. Produces a modicum of lacing. Cool look from the large quantity of long-lasting bubbling. The beer tastes more like a classic Vienna and less like a dunkel than the aroma suggests. Still, there is a light chocolate element to the flavor. Surprisingly dry and bitterly hoppy, especially since this isn’t exactly the most freshly brewed beer that I’ve tasted. This low-alcohol lager has been sitting in my wine fridge for months, after months of sitting in the cooler at Blue Max Liquors. Finish features an unexpected but not bad Italian spices-like taste. Overall, not very complex flavors, but what do you expect from the Vienna style? Long, bitter aftertaste. Light to medium body. Very lively and sharp on the tongue and in the throat, an extreme version of classic lager palate sensations. Schwelmer Bernstein is an interesting beer and much better than the fairly low score here at RateBeer indicates. A strong entry in the style.
