Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2009. Near opaque brown-black with a tiny frothy tan head. Aroma of dry roast coffee beans, nutty, herbal and not much berry character - just a decent-smelling stout. The taste is a bit light, but solidly roasty and there’s the mild strawberry, along with a bit more acidity than I would like .... light and frothy mouthfeel, acidic, and quick-finishing; not too dry, and no aftertaste at all. A solid light stout, with a good roast/bitterness/astringency balance (not very fruity, though).

On cask @ Volo cask days: Appearance: Pretty black, small tan head. Aroma: Chocolate, spice, slight fruit, alcohol, malt and smoke. Flavour: Fruity chocolate, peat, slight milkiness, light smoke, a tiny, tiny amount of strawberry and a pear finish. Not bad.

[2561-20091031] Cask. Chocolate-covered strawberry raspberry fruit aroma. Murky, dark brown black body with a quick bubbly white head. Nice strawberry fruity aroma with roasty smoky malt. Medium-full body. Drinkable, average.

Volo Cask Days 2009. Good black pour, small frothy nose, Sweet/roasty aroma, the strawberry seems a little muted with slight nuances of fruit. Flavor is roasty, with some chocolate, and some sweetness that isnt exactly strawberry, but it was still fruity. Not bad, not great.

Cask Days 2009 @ Bar Volo, Toronto, ON: Pours deep, dark brown with a small off-white head. A great chocolate-covered strawberry aroma makes way for just that in the taste. Strawberries are a bit muted, more like a real strawberry than a DQ sugary topping to clarify. Actually a nice, light-ish dark beer. Good work.

2009-10-31. Very dark brown, murky black body with a small frothy tan head. 3+ Aroma of dry roast and generic fruit character. 6+ Flavour is similar, dry roasty malt is sweetened by fruity character. It is not overtly strawberry - I am not sure if I would have been able to identify the fruit had I not been told, but the fruit profile is pleasant if a bit subtle. Average palate. Okay. Cask at Volo Cask Days 2009
