Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2005 Sampled at the Arrow & Loon, Ottawa
Dark copper, almost bronze red, with a clingy head. Grainy smell, the hops come through with a very herbal twang.
Malty taste and just a little sweet at first, with an excellent bitterness and long mouthfeel. An good session brew. beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Jan 9, 2005 BITTER. very complex flavours, impressive. i really enjoyed this beer, full of flavour. MillStreetMan (152), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 28, 2004 This is a fantastic example of a brown ale. Though not as good as Scotch Irish’s Sgt. Major IPA, this is still an excellently balanced beer that has a great deal of bitterness and hoppiness, yet does not get overwhelmed by either. Not overly malty, yet it reveals some malt that is not always present in brown ales. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 12, 2004 This was direct from the keg, courtesy of Pondoshuffles. Red copper ale with light malt and hops aroma. Intense hops, citrus, and nutty finish. Rich finish and body. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 29, 2004 Roasted, nutty coffee beans emboldened by vanilla currents...Hops are extremely black peppery and get very pugnacious in the finish to the detriment of the pleasant maltiness...This was from a growler, so I need to revisit in fresh tap form... beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 29, 2004 One week old growler. Pours a reddish brown color with no head at all. Intriguing aroma of nuts and smoked malt. Flavor of nuts and brown sugar which is interesting but near the finish there’s an unpleasant, harsh, peppery and bitter flavor that lasts a while. Light body, the carbonation level is low but still decent considering the age of the growler. Of course the beer would have been better if it was fresher. SimonB (65), Geneva, Switzerland Nov 29, 2004 (Bottle). Very small white head, virtually no lacing, fully diminishing. Opaque and a bit cloudy light brown body. Molasse, caramel and brown sugar aroma. Hoppy flavors in the mouth and heavy to harsh bitterness toward the end of long duration. Also pepper-like flavors, not so pleasant at the mid-end. Too light body, flat, harsh final feel. If it would not have been from the harsh feel, this beer would have been much more appreciated (at least to my taste). Sampled at MartinT’s place with other RateBeerians for the "Montreal’s Voyager Par Les Papilles’ first tasting session". Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 28, 2004 Deep copper, clear. Decent head despite not being in best shape out of a one week old growler. Surprisingly light nose hitting the nostrils with original flavours: nuts, butter, various herbs, marine salt, rubber… Very hoppy development in mouth where those vegetal/green hops come out almost chalky combined with the roasty malt aspect. Quite watery texture, light body, soft carbonation. Looking forward to sampling this one on draught.
