Commercial Description:
Our new bitter brown ale, Corporal Punishment, is our most complex beer to date. This ale is a wonderfully bitter, incredibly malty and nicely hoppy brew. Amber and Dark Crystal malts, and Willamette and Challenger hops are used in this 5.3 percent alcohol, 84 International Bittering Units (that’s right, 84 IBU) ale. A rich mahogany in colour, this ale blends flavours of fresh bitter coffee, dry caramel and nuttiness with light dry chocolate, woody hop and citric notes.

RE-RATE bottled -wussy LCBO labelling says only ’CORPORAL’ and there’s no cricket bat on the graphic anymore. Nice nutty-toffee flavor and aromas, and great little bitter hop bite on the finish. Quite good! ORIGINAL RATING 6 / 3 / 6 / 3 / 11 = 2.9 This is a recent Heritage brewing sampled on Draught at Bar Volo... "It’s too hoppy, unbalanced and missing the nutty yeast and toasted caramel tastes of a Brown ale, it has a the sharp mouth of an ESB and too dark for a pale ale..I have to ask what’s the point? " (POOTZ) Ditto. Plus no head and I found this under-carbonated, which didn’t help. The bitterness is too astingent, and the after taste is grassy and medicinal - not in a cool interesting way. Lacked body. Unengaging.

341 mL stubby. Brown with a ring of head. Lots of caramel and nuts in the aroma. Tonnes of malt and tonnes of bitterness in the flavour. The hops must go in early, though, because there’s not a lot of flavour from the hops, and even less aroma. There’s also quite a bit of chocolate in there, along with come espresso. I’ve been drinking this on tap for a while, and I have to admit that I had no idea that this beer is only 4.3% It tastes so much bigger. Great beer.

Tasted at TFOB. Bitter hopped flavour. Nice deep colour and lacing. Hint al malt balances the finish well.

Pint from a Cask at the Castle. Man, is this a solid brew! Taps a murky amberish brown, with a large, frothy, beige head. Aroma: Strong aromatic hops, quite nice, with a very solid malty backbone. Taste: Unbelievably well balanced. You can tell there’s 84 IBU’s, but honestly, you don’t feel it as much as you’d think. My palate was taken away with the delicious malts, the bitterness mostly only evident in the finish and aftertaste, in the form of a mild tingling on the tongue that lingers. Man, this one is something special! Almost like a murky brown IPA, because usually Brown Ales aren’t really my thing. This beer definitely blurs the style guidelines of at least a couple different styles.

Shared with Pyrozoid. Caramel/copper poor with a quickly fading off-white head. Aromas of caramel, smoked almonds, wood chips, light pepper notes, white chocolate. Jesus lord!... Starts with a bitter bang, then comes some caramel sweetness all ending with a crisp dry finish. What character for a 4% brew! Hoppy flavors, hints of liquid smoke and caramel malts. Medium body. Impressive.

So bitter can be beautiful! Smoky nutty roasty malted beer which is, of course, a BITTER brown! It’s probably the finest Onatrio brew out there right now. And certainly one of the best browns.

This is one of the more intresting beers to hit the Ontario market. It has a mohagony colour with a tan head. The aroma is nutty and bready. Flavour is a complex nutty character, so beautifully nutty and malty. It has a very dry finish with a lingering bitterness that does not overwhelm but is arresting none the less. Mouthfeel is perfect. This beer is a total winner at 5.3 ABV and 83 IBUs. For those numbers, the beer is wonderfully balanced. Style is American Brown Ale.

Bottle.Clear golden with a thick off-white head with good retetnion and lacing. Aroma is brown malt, toasted malt, and earthy notes. Flavor is toasted malt, weird burnt flavor, metal and earthy notes with a bitter finish.
