Nov 30, 2006 Updated: Dec 3, 2006On draught at the Magpie - came a deep shade of ruby, with an cream coloured head that remained throughout the glass. Aroma is of light chocolate malt and grapefruity hops - not all that dissimilar to the same brewers Sgt. Major IPA actually. Flavour is very hoppy (good! thank you!) right off the bat, along with the chocolate malt, and grapefruit notes, and some really good sticky hop bitterness throughout. The finish is a long wave of bitter notes, none of them over-the-top but certainly not subdued. This is definitely a hop-forward beer on all fronts. There’s a nutty, malty quality that stays in the background. It’s almost like the big brother of the Sgt. Major, an amped up, louder version. Put this in bottles and I will buy it.

May 20, 2007 Goldeny brown in colour, Syropy, toasty, nutty, rich caramels and dark chocolate. Very complex and smooth.

Dec 11, 2009 Bottle from LCBO. Too bad, but this is a drain pour I don’t know what got to it it’s only 2 mo old but this is acidic and full of prickly foam.

Feb 24, 2004 Wonderfully bitter brew!! This is definitely an assault on the senses. Rich head, earthy aroma, refreshing bitterness. Malty, nutty aftertaste. Tasted this at the Bow & Arrow Pub in Toronto... a true gem.

Oct 14, 2009 Bottle from LCBO. Pours dark brown to deep copper in colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma is not too intense, herbal and earthy hops. Hops really stand out in the flavour department, with a hint of smoked malt. Great Ontario beer,

Nov 21, 2008 Pours a deep copper colour with a thin slightly off white head. Nose is nice and bitter. Not much actual hop scent, but smells very bitter. Flavour is almost more of an IPA than a brown ale. Some nice citrus notes which weren’t really present in the nose, and a bit of a bit of a malty backing, but not really enough for what I’d consider to be a brown ale. Carbonation is ok, and the mouthfeel isn’t offensively watery, but it isn’t exceptional.

Apr 15, 2005 tap @ beer bistro. big hoppy citrus aroma. Bitter does indeed hit thee. Fruity aftertaste if not a bit astringent.
