Commercial Description:
Our new bitter brown ale, Corporal Punishment, is our most complex beer to date. This ale is a wonderfully bitter, incredibly malty and nicely hoppy brew. Amber and Dark Crystal malts, and Willamette and Challenger hops are used in this 5.3 percent alcohol, 84 International Bittering Units (that’s right, 84 IBU) ale. A rich mahogany in colour, this ale blends flavours of fresh bitter coffee, dry caramel and nuttiness with light dry chocolate, woody hop and citric notes.

Certainly the best beer to come out of Ontario. Even better than their Sgt. Major's, this aggresively hopped American Brown Ale is wonderfully balanced by a rich malt character. Dark mahogany in colour, a malty nose gives way to hop character. Although higher in IBU's than the Sgt. Major's, the Corporal's balance actually leaves the palate slightly sweet before succumbing to the the hops. A truly outstanding beer that gives credit to the brewer with each pint.

on tap at the castle on king. 6 oz sample. served reddish brown with a nice tan head. fresh green hop aromas over complex malt structure. man there is so much goin on in this one. the IBU’s clock in at 84 but the malts somehow outshine them. the malt are so enjoyable and smooth out the noticable citrus twang. this brew is awesome and will be the reason i return to the castle.

Wow, what a great beer this is! Great toasted brown colour, nice combination of rostiness and bitterness in the aroma. The body is robust and creamy without being overbearing. The flavour perfectly combines the toasty chocolate nuttiness of a great porter with the dry, woody hops of a great pale ale. If this is Perry's idea of punishment, I can't even begin to imagine his idea of pleasure!

Perry’s the best brewer in Canada. This is a fine example of his craft though sometimes inconsistent in quality when this beer is on it is ON! Not much more to add than what’s already been said. I’m a fan.

Pint from a Cask at the Castle. Man, is this a solid brew! Taps a murky amberish brown, with a large, frothy, beige head. Aroma: Strong aromatic hops, quite nice, with a very solid malty backbone. Taste: Unbelievably well balanced. You can tell there’s 84 IBU’s, but honestly, you don’t feel it as much as you’d think. My palate was taken away with the delicious malts, the bitterness mostly only evident in the finish and aftertaste, in the form of a mild tingling on the tongue that lingers. Man, this one is something special! Almost like a murky brown IPA, because usually Brown Ales aren’t really my thing. This beer definitely blurs the style guidelines of at least a couple different styles.

Nutty, chocolate aroma, deep copper, lovely little vanilla head, some lace. Nutty, woody and chocolate malt flavours are an absolute marriage! The after taste is a sensational malt, with just the right amount of bitterness. Wonderfully balanced. Terrific!

Rich amber/brown w/ fluffy tan head. Firm nose w/ lots of hops & malt(nuts, caramel, chocolate). Full-bodied. Lovely nutty, chocolately malt character slowly giving way to a somewhat earthy, very bitter finish. Extremely well balanced & surprisingly not overpowering for such a bitter beer.

pours reddish brown, off white head. nice cocoa, roasty and hoppy nose. good maltliness with "coffee crisp" flavours and hops predominately roasty with a bit of citrus coming through. very nice.
