It has a mohagony colour with a tan head. The aroma is nutty and bready. Flavour is a complex nutty character, so beautifully nutty and malty. It has a very dry finish with a lingering bitterness that does not overwhelm but is arresting none the less. Mouthfeel is perfect. This beer is a total winner at 5.3 ABV and 83 IBUs. For those numbers, the beer is wonderfully balanced.
Style is American Brown Ale. robinvboyer (1431), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

Aroma is very hoppy, and also malty, its like an intoxicating caramel, and citrus. Wow, i could smell this all day. Flavour is very nicely balanced, lots of bitterness in the finish, a very good brown ale. Perry is Canada’s best brewer StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Aroma is of light chocolate malt and grapefruity hops - not all that dissimilar to the same brewers Sgt. Major IPA actually. Flavour is very hoppy (good! thank you!) right off the bat, along with the chocolate malt, and grapefruit notes, and some really good sticky hop bitterness throughout. The finish is a long wave of bitter notes, none of them over-the-top but certainly not subdued. This is definitely a hop-forward beer on all fronts. There’s a nutty, malty quality that stays in the background. It’s almost like the big brother of the Sgt. Major, an amped up, louder version. Put this in bottles and I will buy it. Beer itself a deep copper colour when held up to the light (candle). Aroma actually quite similar to the Sgt. Major. Taste, though, that’s where it all comes into place......some earthiness, light chocolate notes, a tad of sweetness, and hazelnut; but mainly lots of really quality malt and grassy/citrusy hops......and then the finish.....waves and waves of bitterness, but not unpleasant in any way, just the perfect finale. A really complex beer with all sorts of stuff happening at different times, and the whole is much more than the sum of its excellent parts. A combination of three beers, really - a brown ale, a very strong bitter, and an IPA. Perry is widely considered to be one of the most intriguing and adventurous brewers in Ontario (alongside Black Oak), and this beer, the second I’ve had from Scotch Irish, cements that reputation and makes me crave more. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 12, 2003 Bright auburn color with a red shine. Beautiful lace all the way down as with Sgt. Majors. The nose is dominantly chocolatey, somewhat like neapolitan ice cream but with a tinge of orange. The body is thick with hops but by no means over the top. Big roastiness in there as well, even bigger than their porter. A great lingering bitterness is rounded off by some sweet malt all the way at the end. Very nice beer, the IBU's are more than Sgt. Majors, but IMO taste milder. Nice work. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Deep mahogany colour and a nice white sudsy lace make for a good looking beer. A BIG roasted malt, nutty aroma. Huge hop explosion throughout, crisp, citrusy. Reasonably balanced too. I'm looking forward to having this stuff again, it's just too bad that it isn't more widely available. Sammy (4024), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hoppy, bitter, dark malts. Nicely served at Beer Bistro for the Winterfest. Roasted malt gives it nice brown colour. Nice retained head. Carmel on malts and nutty, but bitterness prevails. Nutty, over the top and out-of-the box as this very interesting brewery will do.
Had agian at Volo Cafe and a little less received, which I think is the strong detergent in glasses. beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
