Seems to have a little bit of sediment on the bottom, didn’t realize it though and didn’t get much of it. A little nutty and citrusy aroma, quite interesting, but could be a little ore pungent. Flavour is excellent, quite bitter with lots of deep hop flavours hidden in this beer. Very nice brown ale flavour, one of the best browns I’ve had. Can’t believe it’s only 4.3% with this much flavour. Hint of smoke and a long finish, very nice. jimmay (204), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Aroma is not too intense, herbal and earthy hops. Hops really stand out in the flavour department, with a hint of smoked malt. Great Ontario beer, Sanchex (223), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Rich head, earthy aroma, refreshing bitterness. Malty, nutty aftertaste. Tasted this at the Bow & Arrow Pub in Toronto... a true gem. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Cask Conditioned. Pours red/brown and a bit murky. Really great looking firm rocky off white head. Lightly smoked, nutty roasted malt aroma. Very malty with pepper, clove earth and fruit. Sour. Dry citric pithy finish. I would have noticed the bitterness, however I had just had a 90 Minute DFH IIPA. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2004 This is a fantastic example of a brown ale. Though not as good as Scotch Irish’s Sgt. Major IPA, this is still an excellently balanced beer that has a great deal of bitterness and hoppiness, yet does not get overwhelmed by either. Not overly malty, yet it reveals some malt that is not always present in brown ales. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Dark copper, almost bronze red, with a clingy head. Grainy smell, the hops come through with a very herbal twang.
Malty taste and just a little sweet at first, with an excellent bitterness and long mouthfeel. An good session brew. Imperial-John (165), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Smooth dry bitterness, so much so it almost evaporates in the mouth. Dry vanilla, toffee and woody nut flavour with a woody after-taste. An acquired taste that I have yet to acquire.
