Deep brown, tan head. Pretty roasty nose, light though. Flavor is quite interesting, light roast, some sourness, some milk, and a bit of fruit. An odd combination but it works well. The milky sourness detracts a bit from the palate. Good though.

Pours deep red/brown with a little soapy tan head. Toasted aroma with a bit of wood smoke. Very sour, with some salty residuals. A nice amount of smoke carries through the flavours. Apples and lemon fruits. Balanced sweet malts and souring hops. Maybe some yeast shows itself. The most interesting beer at the festival.

Not too drinkable, but change of pace. Mildly carbonated. Nice dark appearance and coffee roasty licorice aroma. Complex tastes of citrus and chocolate from malt, and sourness from the Irish hops.

Another draught from the Toronto Fest 2004. I haven’t had the Black Irish Plain Porter so I can’t make any comparison. I think this is a solid beer though. Beautiful black in appearance with a tan head. Potent roasty malt aroma with lots of coffee essence. Silky smooth and finishes with a good bitterness level. Flavourful and complex. Solid stuff.

Strong coffee, chocolate and liquorice aromas. Dark, almost black like espresso, tiny deep brown head, some nice lace. Sour, bitter, roasty flavours. Light bodied. Thanks Perry for another rare treat!

Dark brown, almost black. Creamy coffee-coloured head. Rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, & smoke. Light-medium feel. Interesting, slightly acidic flavour of chocolate, coffee, & smoke. Moderately complex.
