| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2009 Yeast-heavy pour, chunky bodied, mahogany under a thick but rather quick ecru head. Sweet aromas of cherries and orange with a chocolatey-caramel undertone, like one of those chocolate candies with a jellied fruit center. A blast of alcohol comes out as I draw a deeper breath. Flavor almost cloys, as there is a strong sugar base tempered only somewhat by a fruity tartness. Plenty of caramel and citrus fruits, sweet cherries, lemondrop and a pinch of dirt. I would have thought that after two years this might be a bit more mellow. And no... I found very little evidence for this to be classed as a Scotch Ale. Deem this a Belgian Strong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 12 oz. bottle from Corkscrew, Urbana, IL, May 2007, consumed 10/31/2009. (And, apparently, my 1900th rating.)

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Aroma of molasses, brown sugar and chocolate. Appearance was murky brown with creamy tan head. Flavor matched the nose, with some additional liquor flavors and an almost confectionery quality. Resembles Gulden Draak for me on many levels. Fizzy, bubbly mouthfeel. Tasty, but familiar. tnkw01 (214), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Needless to say this my first Scotch Ale so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I found it to be a nice beer. A little thick but overall tasty. unclemattie (2438), Georgia, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 23, 2009 This beer is interesting to say the least. This is a great scotch ale with a belgain twist. The blend of smoked malts (probably peat smoked) with the hops create a great scotch flavor. Most scotch ales have bitter hops like glacier or cascade (higher in Alpha Acids), but I was interested in the fact that his had a hallertau in the mix. The head is not a creamy as a Bellehaven’s Scotch ale, but the hops zest and smoke malts at blended wonderfully. Enjoyit (1746), Vadum, Denmark
