highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Nov 7, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Intresting burnt orange with some brown. Aroma of leather and spice. A nice sweetness and yet a good balance. Nice finish. I like this. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 8, 2009 It’s black and I can’t see through it! Two fingers’ worth of frothy tan head, but gone oh so quickly. Aroma was mild, too mild really, and was perhaps of some malt and maybe dark plum? Taste was rather different than what the nose suggested, some dark chocolate and burnt coffee; reminded me of a porter. Mouth and finish were okay. Not a remarkable beer, but drinkable. Skyview (3961), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 7, 2009 Received a 22-oz bomber from trade with riversideAK and shared at Dark Lord Day. Pours a semi-clear copper brown colored brew with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, some chocolate, dark pitted fruits, some flowery hops and a touch of smoked wood. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of roasted dark malt, a hint of figs, roasted nuts, and some toffee. Finish is semi-sweet, with a roasted dark malt and dark pitted fruit aftertaste. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA May 4, 2009 4/25/2009: Scuttlebutt 10º Below Ale pours a murky, dark brown color with a beige head. The aroma had a scorched malt quality to it. This beer had a dry roasted flavor with some butter notes in the dry finish. Overall it is just not that good at all. I should have passed on this one for something else...
Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #50 for this beer.
cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland May 3, 2009 bottle at DLD 2009 ... copper brown ... sweet malts ... bright light hop ... quite fruity jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA May 2, 2009 Deep brown coloured body, slightly muddy with a super-thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some more odd pit fruits. Light-bodied; Strong coffee and roasted malt flavours come through with nuts, pecans and a touch of figs. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a light smokey flavour in addition to a very light acidic taste. Overall, a good porter - fairly simplistic and very mild in comparison to others. I’d say to pass on this, but if you can’t find it often, then give it a shot. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BottleWorks in Seattle, Washington on 11-November-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-May-2009. daknole (2800), Plantation, Florida, USA Apr 28, 2009 DLD sample. Brown pour. Light head. Lots of roast, chocolate and some interesting tobacco aromas. Flavor is roastyy and fruit with some residual sweetness. Above average. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bomber. Poured translucent iced tea brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up toasted chocolate, caramel, and light smoke with mild accents of dark fruits and herbal notes. The flavor had caramel and molasses at the core with mild ashy smoke, berries, and dry toffee surrounding.. finished very dry and a bit warm. Medium-bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. toasty and warm, but a tad empty in the flavor department at the finish.
