4/25/2009: Scuttlebutt 10º Below Ale pours a murky, dark brown color with a beige head. The aroma had a scorched malt quality to it. This beer had a dry roasted flavor with some butter notes in the dry finish. Overall it is just not that good at all. I should have passed on this one for something else...

Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #50 for this beer.

Deep brown coloured body, slightly muddy with a super-thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some more odd pit fruits. Light-bodied; Strong coffee and roasted malt flavours come through with nuts, pecans and a touch of figs. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a light smokey flavour in addition to a very light acidic taste. Overall, a good porter - fairly simplistic and very mild in comparison to others. I’d say to pass on this, but if you can’t find it often, then give it a shot. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BottleWorks in Seattle, Washington on 11-November-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-May-2009.

Bomber. Poured translucent iced tea brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up toasted chocolate, caramel, and light smoke with mild accents of dark fruits and herbal notes. The flavor had caramel and molasses at the core with mild ashy smoke, berries, and dry toffee surrounding.. finished very dry and a bit warm. Medium-bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. toasty and warm, but a tad empty in the flavor department at the finish.

Bottle from Bottleworks. Mild aroma that pours dark amber with a tan head. Good balance of mild hops and a touch of spic. Medium body that goes down smooth

i don*t know if i would call this a porter?...

bottle by way of riversideAK.

dark chestnut-y auburn brown with a small tannish head and sporadic spots of lace. the body gets hazy and the lacing increases on the second pour. maple syrupy/brown sugar sweetness in the aroma followed by sour-ish fruit, lots of warming spices, toasted nuts, malty goodness and chocolate. the flavor profile is similar to the aroma... quite cola-like with yeasty earthiness, toned down molasses, apples, toasted nuts and some lactic sourness. it finishes clean with some hoppy dryness. medium bodied with a great balance. 7/4/7/3/15/3.6

Taster – Washington Winter Beer Festival – Seattle, WA – Nice dark malt aroma and flavors. Loved the chocolate and coffee flavors. Very warm and well brewed beer. Loved how this beer develops more when it warms up.
