Caramel and spicy nose with a nostril numbing alcohol burn. Medium to full bodied with a nice alcohol presence. Flavors of dried fruits. Figs, prunes and raspberries. Vanilla sweetness. Sticky malts. Caramel and toffee notes. Hint of cocoa. Somewhat dry acidic finish. Good coffee bitterness. Good fruity esters. Nice alcohol warmth. Lively sticky effect. Well done. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Bomber. Pours a murky dark brown, almost opaque. No head, mild carbonation. Aroma is molassis, floral tones, sweetness. Taste is big molassis, some brown sugar, alcohol. A very light bitter hopping. Caramel sweetness. Finish is alcoholic with just a touch of burnt malt, nice. Body is just a touch too thin for the style. Certainly not a traditional American porter, as the roasted and chocolate malts are subdued. More of a hearty winter ale. fakepurseninja (782), Washington, USA

Pours an elegant dark brown with a nice rich head. Smooth roasty aroma with a hint of plum; the flavor is a nice mocha with a bit of leather, some spice, and an enjoyable whisper of alcohol.
All in all, and enjoyable and surprisingly subtle beer from Scuttlebutt. CapFlu (3482), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
