On tap. Poured a very respectable black color with a very thing and quickly diminishing head. An aroma of oak and chocolate witha dash of hops filled my nostrils. There definatly was an oak flavor in this porter, to the point of almost over powering the light chocolate and sweet malt flavor of the beer. Pretty thin body, but very easy to drink.

(Draft: Scuttlebutt Brewing Co. in Everett, WA) Compared side-by-side with the standard porter, I’m expecting to like it better since I tend to like oaked beers better than their regular counterparts. Unfortunately, while the oak chip aging does add a modest oak flavor and aroma, the base porter seems to suffer. It’s roasty, but loses much of the chocolate maltiness, and is less sweet to boot, so we’re left with a dry, oaky roastiness that fails to capture my attention. I think the oak porter has a bit less body than the standard porter too. This beer shows the same mahogany color as the standard porter, but the light tan head is smaller, and fades to a ring while leaving some patchy lacing. Overall, it’s fine, but the standard porter is better.

Dark brown colour. Aroma is still coffeeish, nutty, but with a little oak as well. Slightly acidic from roast malt and oak, but mainly weak coffee and even weaker oak on the palate.
