Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light roasted notes, as well as alcohol and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and alcohol, as well as light notes of hops, leading to a medium bitter end. The alcohol burns the side of the tongue.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with Larry Pitonka (thanks!). 2005 Vintage. Poured a deeper and cloudy mahogany color with an averged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruits, a woody earthiness, and a little nutty. Tastes of caramel, nuts, toffee, dark fruits, and wood. Medium alcohol burn in the finish.

Bottle, 2004 vintage 12.9% courtesy of Larry Pitonka: Pours a murky mahogany with a thin, wispy off-white head. Has an enticing, rich, complex malty sweet aroma with dark fruity complexity, and some plum and caramel notes. Body starts thin with some mildly sweet dark caramel, a touch of brown sugar and dark fruits before a warming thin finish. Body and flavor are let downs based on the promise of the aroma. This is over-attenuated, but could otherwise be a nice beer.

Chestnut, clear; no real head. Cherry-like alcohol nose, alcohol and fusels. Very malty taste with higher alcohols. Surprisingly rich & aromatic character for some moments. Aggressive alcoholic & burning malts MF, slick, viscous nearly. This is all fireworks: it sparkles, thunders and shouts, but then it’s a black empty sky again. The palate is good enough, but it wants to impose too much.
