Pours to a deep brown to black color, with a soapy, tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is very nice, with aromas of piney hops, paired with dark chocolate, and mild roast. The palate is soft and full on the palate with really good dark chocolate, coffee, and roasty flavor. This beer finishes with more good coffee, then ends with a dry, roasty, bitterness that lingers. Impressive porter, that makes for a great pint, and a natural with the sea food and pub grub dishes on Scuttlebutt’s pub menu. This beer was an excellent match with coconut shrimp, and I took a 22 oz bomber of this one away with me. phildorsey (43), Fort Lewis, Washington, USA

Aroma has a heavy malty background with hints of roasted coffee. Flavor is moderately bitter; but the finish is smooth and lively. Very good... BrewDad (2372), Olympia, Washington, USA

A deep dark brown nectar made by the gods. This was a grea Porter. Had a thick drinking taste with a deep roasty aroma and the flavor was awesome. I loved the choclotae flavors and the finish was just awesome. I loved this porter. One of the best. Ughsmash (4079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA

The aroma picked up a whole great deal of molasses paired with some licorice and vanilla.. some smoke too.. ooh.. this was surprisingly good. The flavor found toasty black patent malts, coffee, and molasses at the core with light earth and coffee bitterness and some smoke around.. picked up a little cocoa to go along with coffee on the finish. Light-medium bodied and dry on the palate.. very well balance. I’m shocked.. all the other Scuttlebutt stuff I’ve found locally has been brutal.. this was a great porter. kyzr (1127), Belgrade, Montana, USA

The colour is very dark, almost black and comes with a moderate tan head. Aroma is a mild maltiness, and it tastes of roasted malt and to a lesser extent, some coffee. Not at all "thin" in mouthfeel like some other porters. troysworktable (109), Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 22, 2007 On tap. Something I could drink quite often. The flavor was of chocolate with a biscuity base. Ephemeral wisp of cinnamon and/or nutmeg. The color was of a vaguely translucent dark brown with a thick light brown head. Good lacing. I had one with an entree of Alaskan silver salmon in a red pepper sauce, potatoes, and butternut squash, as well as with clam chowder. I had another after dinner, accompanied by Bailey’s Irish Cream Chocolate Mousse. A great ale with a great meal. Stove Top (43), Kenmore, Washington, USA
