dark amber, frothy light tan head, thick lace, sweet butterscotch malt aroma, rich malt flavor with lots of butterscotch character, I swear that there are butterscotch candies floating in the glass, just a hint of bitterness that becomes more pronounced as it warms, needs more bitter -- day 2: bitter is better until it warms and the butterscotch takes over

Sammys (428), Portland, Maine, USA Jan 3, 2001 I must say that I was sadly dissapointed. Where were the hops? Way too bland for something advertised as an ESB.
