ruskiimperial (51), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 18, 2009 Not thoroughly impressed with this one. The initial pour is orange with carbonation that lingers for a whole two or three seconds. Aroma is not particularly strong, though some hints of malts are present. Initial flavor presents some very weak hops, similar from traditional english ales. There is also some sweet malts but neither the hops nor the malts are particularly memorable or interesting. According to the bottle this beer is not past expiration, but it certainly tastes like an ipa that is well past its prime. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2009 mildly hazy orange color, moderate off whitre head, a bit of lace sticks to the glass. good smell of citric hops, trace of musty malt. sweet malt flavoroffset by a citirc hop flavor. creamy mouth feel, lightly bitter finish. only a slightlly better than average IPA. the sweet malt dominated the bitter hops a bit ytoo much. single bottle from binny’s orland park. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 13, 2009 Updated: Sep 14, 2009Bottle from Trader Joes rebadged as Kennebunkport IPA. Pours a copper amber with a two fingers ebony head. Fruity aroma, mostly grape juice, with some cheap malts in the background. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Flavor has a caramelly cheap British malt base, countered by underwhelming hop profile. Finish is horrible, grape seed astringency, green apple, diacetyl- what a mess. Crappy HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Poured a hazy amber color with a small creamy white head. Nose is malty with earthy, grassy notes. I also picked up a strange phenol note in the aroma. Medium body, crisp mouth feel. Flavor is underwhelming, mild hop flavors of citrus and grass. Decent caramel backbone. Finish is mildly bitter. smcolw (312), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Sep 5, 2009 This is a mildly hoppy IPA. I’d describe it more as a more earthy IPA than most. Modest head and minimal lace; solid amber color and relatively clear. It does have elements of a British style IPA, such as the more muted hop flavors. Pleasant but not special. CanIHave4Beers (831), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Sep 4, 2009 Tap at El Bait shop. Pours an orangish color with a nice head. Aroma is grassy and malty sweet with a slightly off aroma I can’t really place. The flavor starts off with a weird pilsner malt sweetness, some sweet tarts, the hoppiness is very citrusy and fruity in all the wrong ways, a bit of butterscotch is detected. I’m glad I only had a sample. daknole (2800), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 1, 2009 bottle. Meh. orangish pour. light hop aroma with some grainy, malty notes. Flavor? pretty damn weak. Weak hops, malt, did I mention its weak? Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2009 Very slight hop aroma, with a touch of malt there if you hunt for it. Pours a clear amber with a fluffy white head. Taste is a bit weak, some caramel, and a breath of hops. Not bad for the price, but for a couple of bucks more, you get a whole lot more flavor.
