Sea Dog Old East India Pale Ale

I didn’t get much of an aroma from this brew but there was a nice full head after the pour. The flavor was sweeter and maltier than I was expecting from an IPA but considering all of Sea Dog’s fruit beers it doesn’t surprise me. Overall a decent but different offering.

bottle poured an amber in color with a big fluffy two finger head and streaming carbonation. aroma has caramel malt, toffee, sweet fruit, and pine hops. mouth feel is medium with plenty of carbonation. taste has bitter malt and pine hops leaning more towards the malted side. some sweet fruit lurks, bit of caramel, and finishes with dry bitters and some hop resin. not quite as hops bound as most ipa’s are but the malted bit is good tasting.

Not a bad offering from this brewery. Found these at my local Trader Joe’s and I really enjoyed the blueberry beer quite a bit, so I was hoping this beer would be equally as good. After drinking a few, it’s clear that it lacks the WC hop punch that I love about a great IPA, but it’s not fair to compare those two so in it’s own right, this is a nice drop of beer. The beer pours out a medium-dark orange copper color, clear with a nice two-finger head without much staying power. Aroma is restrained tropical fruit, and light pine. Flavors had that minimalist approach, and it worked well for this beer. Medium sweetness, floral hop approach with some soft pine accents. Very drinkable, as I put down 3 of them in about an hour.

It looks nice in the glass. I was expecting a hoppy aroma when I opened the bottle, but I got a very malty aroma instead. The malt comes through in the taste a lot too, as a very caramel flavor. More hops to balance out the sweetness would make this beer a lot better. The mouthfeel is nice though. As someone stated in another review, this seems to be more of an ESB. I was not expecting an English Style IPA. For the price its not too bad, just not what I was expecting.

12 oz bottle via Roth’s. Pours a clear copper with a large beige head. Nose is biscuitty and earthy. Taste is lots of caramel, toffee, almonds, and some earthy spicy hops in the sweet finish. Syrupy mouthfeel. A bit of a metallic aftertaste as well. Body is medium/full, carbonation is moderate. Not really a fan of this style of English IPA. More like an ESB.

This bottle had the Kennebunkport IPA label. Clear honey colored pour with an off white head. Grassy aroma. Front end has notes of fruit and a little acidity. Nice and crisp on the palate. Mildly bitter finish.

Dark copper color with an off white head. The aroma is odd, like a fruity toilet bowl cleaner or something. Has an odd flavor too, Urinal cakes may be an ingredient in this one. Not a very good IPA.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s as Kennebunkport IPA. Pours a hazy amber color with minimal head. Aroma is alcohol and slight malt – no hops. Palate is malt with minimal hops. Meh, I’ll pass.
