This is one of the better pumpkin ales. It is sweet but not sticky and has a very nic spiceyness too it. Cinnimon maybe a little. Good stuff. Quick message for those who hate a particular style of beer like this. A SHV beer is an aquired taste but if you hate this type of beer why try it. mg21497 (12), Columbus, Ohio, USA

I find it to have a very strong auromatic pumpkin smell and a very distinctive pumpkin taste that finishes very clean. Found the label amusing.. not like any i’ve seen before. Smelled of spices and hops. Taste was very pleasant. You can taste the hops compared to other pumpkin ales I have tried. The hops brings out the flavor of the pumpkin. I like this beer. If the world was somehow rid of all Shipyard Pumpkinhead, I would buy this. BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2005 I seem to like the pumpkin ales that few others on here appreciate. This one, along with Buffalo Bill’s are my favorites and I strive to have them stashed away year around for the right occasion. Strong ale backbone with a pleasing blend of pumpkin and spices that makes for a well-balanced beer. Not nearly as sweet as Dogfish Head’s cloying Punkin Ale, Sea Dog’s is dry and subdued--behind the spices is a solid ale that can stand alone. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA

This one not only smells great, but has a very light spicy pumpkin flavor, along with nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon and some sweet citrus. The mouthfeel was kind of thin, but this was otherwise pretty tasty, and a great beer to sip during the fall season. halfonit (462), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2008 This is pretty good stuff. I’ve had plenty of the pumpkin ales and would have to say this one rates up there with shipyards version. Has a nice pumpkin spice flavor to it. Nothing too sweet nor too bitter. Good job Sea Dog. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2004 Bottle at GIBF. Lots of cinnamon in the nose, with pumpkin--lots of pumpkin in the nose. Mildly hazy blonde color with a small white head. Could be darker. Spicy, cinnamon, pumpkin and clove notes. Finishes with a touch of hops. This is pretty nice. Not balanced, but the flavor is good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 20, 2006 Pours with a golden body topped by a thick white head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet yet spicy, full of allspice and nutmeg wtih a hint of cinamon and some pumpkin. The flavor is similar with a little less spice. Light bodied, crisp and smooth.
