Commercial Description:
A truly big winter ale made from the finest English and German malts. Its huge malty character is well balanced with a selection of domestic bittering hops, and is complimented by a generous dry-hopped addition of Willamette hops.

(12oz bottle, BBE 10/08, labeled Sea Dog Winter Ale) Large and frothy off-white head atop crystal clear amber ale. Aroma is medium sweet, berry, some caramel/bread, faint earthy. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, earthiness that has metallic edges, some tart berry. Soft medium body with light acidity.

Lympathic diacetyl over empathic hop spiciness...Sympathetic earthy malt feel couples with light citrus because it is lacking in its endemic flavors...Chalk dust and slight astringency surface in the end along with a soulless, impotent bitterness comeback...

A full-bodied brew with the burn of alcohol lingering faintly in the background. Not overly impressive and the labels for Sea Dog beers need some spicing up, unlike the beer which seems a tad spicy already.

Deep garnet in color, beige head and nice lace. Nose is caramel, malt, and slightly floral. Front is sweet, the top light, the finish is hop spicy, acidic, dry and a very decent drinking beer.

There's a lot of good in this beer but something is wrong with it. What is wrong with it? Je ne sais qui.

Dark gold body with amber undertones, topped by a medium thick head with good lace. Sweet malty aroma with fruity notes and a sweet malty flavor with a strong hoppy finish. Medium to heavy bodied with a dry finish.

RE-RATE: Ok, I know this brewery has closed and re-opened and what not in the past couple years. The bottle I have only says "Winter Ale" on it. Nothing about Stock, but I assume it's the same thing. Malty caramel aroma with a yeastly belgian-type nose. Pour is a dark copper/amber with a very nice yellow head that turns off-white. Lots of malt kick in the middle. Finish is quite sweet and sugary with some mild smoked bitterness in the very finish. This is actually quite good. Original Rate = 7/4/6/4/12. Not much in the way for comments--was still a RB newbie.
