wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Oct 13, 2008 tap. Sweet, Amber color. Medium bubble head. Buttery sweetness. Hint of sour. Good, but no Angel’s Share. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 29, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. 6 oz. sampler. Viscous scotch colored liquid with a beige head. The foam leaves no lacing as it reduces to a ring. Odd tropical fruity aroma, honey is evident. Flavor is pretty fruity too, with a cotton candy saccharine note and far too much booziness. Thin and alcoholic, hard to finish. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 28, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Described as a wheat wine brewed with lots of honey added. Deep purple-amber with a small head. Floral nectar, honey and jam aroma. Sweet and alcoholic flavor with raspberry tartness, toffee, brown sugar and cookies. Thick and slightly sticky with smooth carbonation, but not too thick considering the strength. The fruity wheat tartness is interesting, but all the flavors and alcohol are a little messy and sweet. I can imagine this going well with a fruit based dessert.
