DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Dec 9, 2002 I’ll just continue to follow Matt’s coattails around as he continues to add all the festival brews we tried to other night but i was too lazy to enter. The IP Ripper Double Rye poured with minimal head and smelled very powerfully of a heavy yeast content. The taste was actually very weak and tasted almost watered down with the malt almost getting lost in the bitter aftertaste. From aroma to sip this one did a complete 180....not really worth trying again..a wonderfully yeasty/sweet aroma is what gets this such a high score. akinm (282), San Diego, California, USA Dec 9, 2002 Strong alcoholic aroma reminiscent of barleywines. sweet start in the mouth but that quickly progresses to a very bitter middle that i found quite distracting. thankfully that passed and this one finished very malty and cleaned out the bitterness very nicely. thanks to the rye it is a very smooth medium to thick bodied beer.
