illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 30, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Opaque goldenrod color with a wet white head. Aroma is pruney and plummy with a mealy wheat background. Flavor is thankfully more subdued than the aroma as far as the fruitiness goes. Standard wheaty flavors with just enough fruit to make it interesting, and a dry finish with a touch of hops. I’ve had a lot of crappy wheat beers from this brewery but this one is actually pretty decent. Delirium (495), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 29, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Pours hazy golden-orange, with a moderate off-white head. Aroma and flavor are a nice mixture of a robust, unfiltered American wheat, with just a hint of the plum sweetness and a hint of hops. Best-done fruit wheat beer I’ve had, I think, because the fruit is understated and not overly sweet, and the beer itself is quite solid and flavorful. Even judged just as a wheat beer for those who don’t like fruit beers, this is very good.
