Commercial Description:
This beer is a traditional filtered Pacific Northwest India Pale Ale. Although golden in color, this is not a light beer. With more than 60 bitterness units it’s got a bite to it, but is well balanced by the sweetness of a 7.4% alcohol by volume brew. This a is a very aggressive tasting beer.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear gold with a small head. Sweet pale malt aroma with flowery, grassy and grapefruit-like hops. The flavor is sweet for an IPA, with nice hop flavor, but not much bitterness. Drinkable and full, with a smooth body. Not too bad, but more hop bitterness to balance the sweet body would make it much nicer. Rerate: Bottled by Sudwerk for Seabright. Seems fruitier, with more melon. Not really very hoppy or bitter for a 7+abv IPA. Looks a little better, so plus one, but the taste, though slightly different, is about the same lever of goodness. Yea...

Tap: Clear gold color. The aroma is pretty bland except maybe some light grassy notes and something else a tiny bit skunky. It does display some bitterness usually found in an IPA, but it seemed more like a regular pale ale. The body is nice and thick, but that’s about it.

Bottle. Pours golden with thin, bubbly white head, lacing. Aroma has mild tropical fruit - passionfruit, some citrus peel - a bit of piney scent and some graininess. Flavor has a lot of fruity bitter hop resin, light breadiness, some alcohol burn, but most is overshadowed by hoppiness. Lingering herbal-pine bitterness in the finish. Oily, lively palate. Simple and one-dimensional, but pretty good. No off flavors. The bottle I had was pretty good and was bottled by Sudwerk in Davis.

This was my first foray into the IPA’s. The nose was like an exotic plastic. The taste was slightly bitter with a background of grapefruit. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t particularly good either. Likes all the ales I’ve tasted (except German weizens) it misses a dimension added by lagering. No thanks, this one is relegated to the NBS crowd.

Pours golden, with small white head, aroma is faint, flavor is not well put together, some citrus hops, and boring maltiness, not a good IPA

Bottle shared with some peeps. Nasty. Seaweed, overly malty, parmesan cheese aroma. Fishy, bitter taste, malts & hops don’t agree at all. Misses the style completely and utterly. An absolute trainwreck.

Bottle, thanks to puzzl. Aroma of sweet malt, kind of like a dogfish beer; and a little bit of citrus. The flavor is mostly malty, reminiscent of a weaker barleywine. Some citrus bitterness in the finish. Mediocre.

On tap at brewpub. Pours a hazy gold with a thin bright white head and decent lacing. Very light aroma. Actually I can’t smell anyting out of this glass. The flavor has a brief splash of malt sweetness followed by citrus grapefruit hop bitterness. Not much in the way of late addition hop sweetness. It’s mostly just moderate grapefruit hop bitterness.
