Commercial Description:
Formerly a seasonal and known as Sebago Retro Porter.
Midnight Porter is a blend of Old World style and New World flavor. This beer is based on the traditional English style that was designed to be lighter than a stout and more drinkable at any time of day. It was popular among the laborers of the early 1800s and derives its name from this group of people. It is a lucious deep ruby red beer with a dry smooth body. Midnight Porter is brewed with all-American ingredients. Caramel malts give this ale body and Black patent and chocolate malts provide its rich, chocolate-like flavor and ruby hue. This beer is darker and has a more roasted flavor than the Boat House Brown; yet it is not as full bodied, or quite as bitter, as the Lake Trout Stout. This ale is hopped with domestically grown Northern Brewer hops and finished with Pacific Northwest varieties Willamette and Mt. Hood. This porter is not very strong in either hop flavor or aroma. Midnight Porter is great with heavier fare, grilled entrees and chocolate.

Pours black into a shaker. Pancake head with good retention leaves slight sheets as it recedes. Roasted coffee aromas. Sharp dark chocolate and coffee upfront. Flattens out in the middle to a burnt, bitter chocolate lasting finish.

(Bottle). Burnt chocolate aroma. Very dark brown, with large brown head. Flavor is smokey-bitter, which then transitions to semi-sweet malt, and a roasty finish. Enjoyable.

Draught @ brewpub. Good body and texture. Low clarity and off finish. Something biting and nasal. I like the mouthfeel.
