kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2009 On tap, at brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy copper body with a creamy frothy beige head. Sweet toasty and biscuity malt with a strong Fuggles nose. Some lighter caramel and toffee. The flavor is caramel maltiness with almost a brown sugar like note. Hoppy, but not especially bitter to me, lots of leafy character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Don’t know, I’m not so sure that Fuggles can carry an IPA all on it’s own, better suited to lighter styles like Bitter or Pale Ale I think. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 12, 2009 Pours a clear amber orange with a well-lacing clingy white head. Aroma of fresh citrusy, almost soapy hops and some light pale malty sweetness. Starts semi-sweet with a piny resiny bittering hoppiness and grassy flavor before a drier, bittersweet crisp finish. Compared to their regular IPA, this just kinda seems like an attempt to use up some extra Fuggles hops. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 2, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Pours copper with sticky beige head and serious lacing. The aroma is fruit and spice; dried apricot, anise, fennel, some lemon, and herbal tea. The flavor is rather bitter. There’s a pretty extreme nut-shell taste that I’m not too fond of. Finish is dry and slightly spicy. It’s allright, but I’m not sure Fuggles is a good choice for a single-hop IPA.
