Commercial Description:
Made with 100% certified organic ingredients, domestic malts and New Zealand hops, this strong style of Porter developed in the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea in the late 1700’s. Ours is soft, velvety, and full bodied with hints of cocoa and toffee, finishing with an underpinning of roast.

This sampling was from on draught at the brewpub......It was dark yet clear with garnet highlights and a medium head. I’m not sure exactly what color a baltic porter should be, but in my opinion it could have been a tad darker. Flavor was malty, coffee/chocolaty and slightly sweet with a trace of hop bitterness in the finish. The wonderful atmosphere of the pub enhances the flavors of all the beers. I’ve been told some previous batches of the Baltic have been a little on the sweet side but this one was nicely balanced and really yummy overall. Excellent beer burps!

Cola and plum, tobacco and toffee aroma, rum-cocoa, mildly, pleasantly sweet, could use more roast and more body. Easy drinking but with an unexpected isopropyl finish that eased as it warmed.

Only my second baltic sampled so I have to admit that I don’t know the style all that well. aroma had some hints of chocolate and dark fruity, and some alcohol on the edge. deep brown in color with very little head. flavor was quite pleasing. dark fruit along with some chocolate, roasted notes, and some alcohol warmth. nice mouthfeel, had some body and soft carbination.

Growler: Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Flavor is of roasted malts and a little hops. Overall the beer is a little watery with medium to light carbonation and even the 7.5% alcohol is not well hidden. A drinkable baltic porter, but nothing special.

Pours a lighter than expected light brown with a nice fluffy lasting head. Aroma is toasted malts, some chocolate- not very intense and a bit papery oxidation. Nutty toasted flavor with light chocolate and some cookie dough- light esters and fruity- kinda watery and bland for a baltic porter. Meh.

RBSG 2006 - DC Grand Tasting Lineup Amber brown, light head and lacing. Nose of light roast, subtle sweet fig and raisin. Seems a bit light on the roast and chocolate category. The flavor is sweet, chewy, notes of malt and grass. The finish is herbal and malty, excellent but not a baltic porter by my tastes.

I love baltic porters and this one is no exception. My only complaint is that it seemed a tad on the thin side. Had a sweet/roast kinda taste to it with maybe like a ting of coffeeish taste. I enjoyed it.
