CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 14, 2009 On tap at the brewpub on 10/25/08: Pours a hazy copper orange with a spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity Belgian malt, some black currant notes and phenols. Body starts thick and doughy with good caramely sweetness, some peppery clove and earthy hops before a bitter, warming finish. Could be smoother and more balanced. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 9, 2009 Tap at the brewpub. Pours a deeper than expected amber with a thin fizzy head. A roma is loaded up with DMS cabbage and cooked corn with almost a rank sewer and garbage component and a phenolic plasticy yeast character that wasnt that good etiehr. Flavor had a bit more fruit- with a sweet banana and apple- out of control gritty grainy DMS with a fusel alcohol kick- not smooth a bit prickly and almost harsh astringent in the end. Something way off in this beer. Miver (547), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2008 Draft at Selins Grove. Poured a cloudy gold in color with a small white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruity esters; pears, bananas. Sweet caramel, fruity sweetness, yeast, and candi sugar dominate in the flavors. Finish is cloying but nails you with alcohol warming. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 28, 2008 On tap, at brewery. Pours a rather dark brownish orange body with a small fizzy off-white head that ran to a thin ring. Fruity nose of over-ripe bananas, some bubblegum, light alcohol, yeast, and candi sugar. A bit darker than the Stealth, some more caramely notes fighting with the bready malt, yeast derived spice and yeast. Finishes with spicy and peppery alcohol. Mouthfeel is full and thick with a good bit of clingy sweetness. Active fizzy prickly carbonation. Overall, decent, but not as tasty as the Stealth Triple. The darker caramel sweetness just doesn’t work as well. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2008 On tap at the Selins Grove Brew Pub. Poured a medium and hazy orangish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of fruitiness / pears, citrus, some yeastiness, and alcohol. Tastes of the same fruitiness, citrus, candi sugar, and alcohol. Alcohol burn in the finish. Sweet. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Oct 26, 2008 Pint at Selins Grove. Dark muddy orange, nearly pale banana bread brown but of course the light is low inside the brewpub. Rich and fruity throughout, a bit too sweet, the citrus fruit is hearty, pulpy and juicy. Alcohol is not hidden at all, a bit overbearing and unneccessary. All around it’s thick and vinous with a slight burn, and wet, oily, and cloying especially in the finish. CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Oct 24, 2008 On draft at the brewpub. Heavy phenol and ester nose. Touching rubbery. Pours a hazed golden-amber-orange, with a soft white foam above. Flavor is rich. Wow. Alcoholic. Lightly sweet. Some real good apple quality, with a bit of cracker and some sweet bread. Explosive and bristling. Phenols and dryness combine to fight off cloying quality. Maybe not the best Belgian yeast quality, but still pleasurable. A little coarse and gritty. Alcohol flames hot on the finish with some almond liqueur. Okay.
