tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 2, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Pours hazy brass with sticky ecrue head. The aroma is orangey hops, some honey, and a little bit of butterscotch. The flavor is dry fruity hops, some loam, slight diacetyl, but not enough to throw it off style. Dry lemon in the finish with some dust and paper. Ok, not great. mj (4973), Colorado, USA Jul 27, 2008 Pint at Selins Grove. Lightly hazed semi-dark amber color to the body, with a creamy white head on top. Wet nose of mashed barley, walnuts, wet hop cones, cedar, caramel and crackers. Sharpness to the malt body throughout the drink, and a resinous, husky, oily texture as well, some wet crackers and syrupy hop oils all over. Some nutty almond hop notes in the finish. Perhaps this is not sitting well in the cask? Tastes a bit old. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Jul 20, 2008 On cask at the brewpub. Clean, bright nose that walks between hop sugars and malt residuals. Pours a bronzed gold, with a white head. Very mild and fresh flavored. A little more cask carb on this pull. Fresh. Bright dry malt body combines with a faint generic hop gum for balance and drinkability. Alcohols stay low. Definitely quite drinkable, but not particularly exciting. Clean, fresh, brightly flavor and quenching. A decent version, but nothing to get overly excited about. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2008 Draft pint, at brewery. Pours a clear light copper body with a nice tight bubbled beige head. Light floral hoppiness on the nose with some bready and toasty malt. Ligthly bitter flavor with a good malt backbone of crusty bread and toasted malts, it’s very well balanced. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a slight doughy stickiness and moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, a pretty basic APA, the slightly fizzy carbonation really brings out the bitterness well. Very drinkable. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Jun 16, 2008 Draft @ Selins Grove. Pours an effervescent, bright tarnished-orange color; creamy off-white head with solid retention and gorgeous, glistening, fine-bubbled lacing; great appearance. Toasty, fruity aroma: more malt-driven than any clear, defined hop presence; some red fruits, wet malts, cereal. Medium mouthfeel: chewy red fruits, bready malts, some toastiness; very nice, reasonably dried candy sugar note at the core; exceptionally drinkable, balanced pale ale. Lengthy finish: toasty, bready malts, red fruits, and lingering mineral bitterness.
