Pours a nearly opaque dark brown color with a medium and rocky beige head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, nuts and coffee in the nose. Medium-bodied with a nice roasted character. Flavors of malt, nuts and coffee are present, plus some hops in the background. The finish is dry with bittersweet coffee and chocolate. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good overall. hopdog (5614), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

A pretty nice schwarzbier. Wegro (223), Fresno, California, USA

Very dark body, can see dark ruby when held up to a light. head doesn’t stick around very long. Flavor reminds me of sierra nevada’s porter, little bit less coffee. Nicely assertive, not very sweet at all. I like the bitterness! This is a good beer. Now I have to try the other moto brews on the shelf!

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Bottled, purchased at Johncy’s in North Liberty, IA. This is the second time I have picked up a relatively obscure California brew at this store. Black with garnet highlights at the edges. Light brownish khaki head. Toasted almonds and milk chocolate come out in the aroma. I also get a fruity hint of blueberries. The taste is day old coffee with some cheap chocolate chips. There is a dry, woody finish with some tobacco. A decent brew, but nothing special. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Poured a deep dark brown color with orange highlights. The head was light tan and left a little lace behind. Aroma was of milk chocolate and molasses. Medium bodied and sweet with roasted malt, chocolate, and molasses flavors. There was a hint of bitterness toward the end. Not bad at all. bhensonb (4369), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Bottle. Black in color with ruby glints. Decent tan head. Thin to medium body with soft, voluminous carbonation. It tastes toasted. More sweet than bitter. Something porter like with coffee and chocolate. There’s some hop, so the finish is roughly balanced. It is not all that sweet, and the finish is reasonably dry. Perhaps too tasty for the style, but it is a very good lager.
