bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA May 18, 2008 Draft at WCBF 2008. Light caramel aroma. Amber color with an off-white head. Medium body with mild carbonation. Caramel flavor, balanced by floral hop. It’s better than many ambers. Finishes dryish. Bitter builds. Very good. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 7, 2007 Bottle from beeronthewall. Holy crap, I can;t believe I’m only the 2nd one to rate this! Pours clear deep coppery going toward ruby with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma is caramel malt, nuts, brown sugar, toffee, and backup hops. Tastes earthy caramel malty, with heavy dusty nuts, primarily almond and walnut noted, some brown sugar, and some finishing minor maple syrupy notes. Not bad at all for this style, which is one of the red-headed stepchild styles for ratebeer. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 4, 2007 12 oz bottle from Country Club Liquors; when I called the brewer he said this was a new recipe from their Thunderhead Amber and a little less alcohol; Nose of caramel and more of a bitter type hoppiness, combined with a little molasses; definately amber with a medium, nicely foamy, beige head; flavor has some hop bitterness, caramel, and toffee in a slightly watery body; finish shows a decent hop bite!
