DruncanVeasey (1612), Burbage, Leicestershire, England Jul 6, 2008 Almost pitch with ruby edges and a tan collar. Swirling with bits. Sourish brambly aroma with background hopcone and charcoal. Mouth damp and ashy, sourish with odd but not completely unappealing red apple fruitiness. Almost Flemish accidental dankness and fruit. LIngers with peanut and biscuit. Gently sour and malty at once. Unintentionally quite a decent beer.

Very dark, off-white head. Slightly antiseptic aroma. Soapy. Sweet. Later - old. Prolly had a duff one. Should rerate. hughie (2150), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England May 25, 2008 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark red brown with a small beige head. Slight chocolate aroma. Taste is strong, creamy and sour with all sorts of goodies like dates, liquorice and shots of espresso. This is a much maligned beer. I love it. leaparsons (3878), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Oct 31, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are earthy coffee with mellow berries. Light malts with some sour and herbal notes. Flavours are smoky and earthy with floral, herbal notes. Some citrus on the finish. dmradus (224), Syracuse, New York, USA Jan 30, 2007 Updated: Feb 6, 2007Cask at the Maltings, York. Pours a deep black with basically no head - slight tan cap fades to nothing quickly. There is not much good to say about this one. Aroma is very slightly roasted malt and chocolate but prevalent band-aid, rubber, even disinfectant. This is more than likely infected to some degree. Taste is band-aid, rubber, again slight roast, definitely astringent and I can feel the alcohol even though its only 5 abv. Off-putting, sour finish and completely flat and light on the tongue. Yow.
