tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 10, 2006 Strong hop aroma that flirts with being too harsh along with an underlying chocolate character and some mineralic notes. Dark brown body is topped by a decent off white head that recedes to partial cover and ring with some lace. Mineralic, hop-forward flavour is somewhat chalky with fairly strong bitterness. Medium light body is somewhat astringent with low carbonation and watery texture. Sampled on tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2006. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 23, 2006 Cloudy dark brown glow, topped by an average light tan head. Aggressive dry-hopping stays on surface of the underlying dark malts, bringing nutty nuances, slightly roasty and a lot of vinous, fruity character. Medium to full bodied yet juicy due to a rather low carbonation level. Explosive juicy C hops procure foresty, floral aromatics that appear a distinct entity than the rest of the beer, over the top and highly bitter, procuring a drastic acidity level that would win fomr being more on the vinous side rather than dominating the latter. Weirdly balanced imo with flavours heading left and right in a seemingly hazardous manner. sarah3961 (29), allston, Massachusetts, USA Feb 23, 2006 brownish black pour. hoppy, grapefruity citrusy flavors. At the same time roasted flavors kind of like an imperial stout. Pretty good, i’d like to try it again. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Feb 14, 2006 Sample at EBF 2006. Very hazy, near-opaque dark brown-black with a thick fluffy slow-receding head....big nose of Cascades and cherries, floral and spicy and punchy though anything but subtle....very sweet, rather syrupy body, again spicy, roasty and a bit tarry but well-balanced in the caramel maltiness, with an every-growing bitterness on to the slightly drier though still somewhat thick, not-quite cloying finish, highly acidic. Needs to keep the maltiness without veering into sugariness, but still very pleasant and drinkable, at least in a small portion....guess I was in the mood to be overpowered. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 4, 2006 Thanks weeare138, southeastern Pennsylvania’s local Shed distributor. Deep caramel-brown body with a soapy beige head. Aroma of fresh-squeezed grapefruit and plums plus light squash notes. Evokes the Spawn of Oliver. Wild flavor like roasted grapefruit and sweet malt. Ultra-citrusy with high bitterness and a sour impression. A unique beer that provides a lacerative, sensory onslaught.
TomDecapolis (3127), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2006 Thanks to weeare138 for providing this growler from the Shed. Pours a dark brown with a small off white light lacing head. Aroma was a mix of orange, grapefruit and tangerine. Flavors were of the same a little bitter. One heck of a brew though. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2006 Sampled from Growler provided by weeare138. Poured a dark and cloudy brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of pine, grape skins, dark fruits, citrus, and tropical fruits. There was a lot going on there and it all worked together very well. Tastes pine, citrus, grapefruit, some dark fruits and toffee. Tastes on the hoppy side. egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2006 Poured a hazy mahogany color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of tangerine (other tropical fruits), pine, pink grapefruit, green grapes, grass and herbs. Taste of toffee, roast, light chocolate, and a bitter grapefruit finish... some alcohol in the finish as well. My favorite so far from The Shed.
