Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 2, 2006 Thanks to weeare138 for sharing at Hopdogs gathering. Pours a deep amber/light brown with a good head. Aroma starts off with a light sulphur dioxide smell left over from the yeast, but then lots of spicy phenols develop. Some wheat, caramel, and spices in the flavor- slightly citrus-like. Some vanilla and clove as it warmed a bit. High carbonation. Light dry finish. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2006 Thanks to grassrootsvt for this hand bottle direct from the brewer. Also, a big thanks for taking the time to actually brew this one per my suggestion. Not too many dark "donker" wits floating around out there.
Appears a dark, chestnut brown with a 1 finger tan head that doesn’t fade. Lots of lacing is left in the glass.
Smell is of wheat, caramel, butterscotch, orange peel, coriander, toffee, and bubblegum.
Taste is of the same aromas.
Mouthfeel is fizzy, dry, mildly sweet/sour, slightly thin along the palate.
Personally, I may have sat on this one a few weeks too long considering Shaun bottled it in early November. Overall, not bad. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2006 Hand bottled from the brewer courtesy of weeare138. Poured a deep and cloudy amber color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of bananas, caramel, light cloves and yeast. Tastes of citrus, banana, caramel and yeast. Lively body. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2006 Poured a hazy brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, banana, bubblegum, and a cheesy yeastiness. Taste of citrus fruits, caramel malts, toffee, light nuts, and more yeast in the finish. Sharp carbonation in the mouthfeel TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 23, 2006 Thanks once again to weeare138 for another Shed beer. Pours a hazy amber orange with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma of banana, wheat, alcohol, caramel and some citrus. Flavor of yeast, lemon and some roasty malts, wheat and a little spicy. Hot on the tongue. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 20, 2005 12 oz tulip at the brewpub. Hmm, a dark Belgian white? Well, it’s dark in the glass alright, completely opaque dark caramel with a lasting 2-finger head decaying to a fine ring with delicate lacing....luscious orange-vanilla-caramel in the nose, light fresh-baked yeastiness, hints of clove and cinnamon that grow substantial with warmth...solid sweet-sour balance on the tongue, lemon-zesty and darkly malty, but the body is a bit too thin for proper support of the interesting flavors...bit of caramelized grain and toffee for the "dark wheat" character...yeasty sourness is considerable near the end of the glass. With more body this could be excellent.
