This beer pours quite dark for a scottish-style ale. The head is thin and a sort of white/off-white. The carbonation is decent but not too crazy. The taste is a sweet, malty flavor that is great on a warm summer afternoon or during the winter. The finish is smooth with a decent hop aroma, but nothing overwhelming. Overall, this is a very drinkable beer that will satisfy all tastes.

dry and woody. Roasted nuts and roasty malt. A little smoky. A touch of hops provide an earthy spice. Sweet caramel coats the tongue. Creamy, thick palate. Maybe I just got the right style at the right time, but this beer tastes awesome right now. I could drink cases of this. This is a huge surprise.

Nice beer, sweet and quite tasty. Wishing it was available in NY. Tried it while on vacation in Maine.

Bought in a country store about 20 miles north of Wiscasset -- it came in a nice 1/2 gallon jug, which was sufficiently attractive to keep in its own right. Very nice, servicable, fresh ale. Try it if you run across it.

From a 64oz growler, sampled the day it was poured. Pours a dark amber witha light tan head. Smells of sweet malt and a bit nutty. Tastes of caramel and sweet malt. Nutty and smoky. Has a light hoppy finish. Medium bodied beer. Nice drinkable brown ale. Steve sure likes his brews bold and malty.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear garnet colored body under a foamy one finger beige head that left some sticky lacing. Very light visible carbonation. The aroma is malt dominated with an interesting mix of toasted malt, light smoke, peat, bacon, and a little beef jerky. Just a light hint of hops. The malt is center stage on the flavor too. Nice dry toasted and slightly husky crystal malt with a light hint of smoke and hops on the finish. Late lingering peat flavor with a touch of coffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a dry grainy husky texture and moderate soft carbonation. Finishes a little sticky. Overall, this was a really good beer. Quite a nice surprise.

Growler purchased at Florian’s. Dark brownish-red translucent body with only a thin film of off-white head. Smells roasty and buttery. Tastes malty and roasty, with caramel and chocolate notes coming out after a few sips, as well as suggestions of nut and vanilla. Diacetyl is also there, but takes an almost immediate backseat to the complex maltiness of the beer. Medium bodied with more carbonation than expected, but not to the point of prickly-ness. I’m impressed with the carbonation of this one - just enough. While I think this beer has just a hint of oxidation, after a few sips, the beer’s true character emerges, revealing a rich complex plethora of flavors in almost perfect balance. This beer is really good - I’d love to try it on-tap sometime. Definitely growing more impressed with this brewery!

Pours a cloudy golden brown color with a foamy tan head. Aroma of caramel and sweet roast malt. Flavor is pretty damn nice with caramel and a nice classic taste to it. Mildly sweet while in the mouth and aftertaste is just a hint bitter. Pretty well build, but I dont think it’s as good as the guy that sold it to me at Downeast Bev in Portland thought when he titled it the "best maine beer". I still think that’s reserved for Cadillac Mt Stout.
