alexanderj (2204), Chino Hills, California, USA Jun 21, 2007 Bottle; bought at Vintage Cellar (Roanoke). Poured a dark brown with a medium sized light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, oranges/citrus, a general earthiness and sweetnes, as well as some caramel malt. Second time I’ve had a blended beer like this; pulled it off pretty well actually. Not great, but interesting enough. Flavors of caramel, chocolate and roasted malt; sweetness up front with lightly bitter finish. pjk33 (384), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 9, 2006 Bottle. My sister Anne brought this one up from Virginia for Christmas 2005. Pours a cloudy brown with a huge head and some slight lace. Color is 1 shade lighter than cola. Nose is nice with sweet raisins, brown sugar, and molasses very prevalent. Nice bitterness and porterlike quality without the big body that a full porter has. Some hop flavors and very little sweetness to round out the brew. This one is light and is well carbonated, and it’s surprisingly good. Rib Eye (143), USA Nov 18, 2005 The best thing Shenandoah brews. Their other beers are all a bit unbalanced, including their pale ale and stout. Somehow the two mixed balance each other out to the malty with a kiss of hops flavor that I like. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Dec 3, 2003 Dark brown colour, slightly opaque with a super-thin tan head. Aroma of slight coffee, roasted malt and slight sugars. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with a bit of sweetness. Aftertaste bittered from the malt, but fairly sweetened from the caramel. Overall, a decent beer, not too special. I bought this twelve ounce bottle from Shenandoah Brewing Company in Alexandria, Virginia and sampled it on 21-November-2003. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA May 16, 2003 Pours out a deep brown color with red highlights at the bottom of the glass. Aromas of roasted malts, hay, fresh grains, and sort of caramel-ly too. It has a short lived dark tan head, that faded to a ring of bubbles around the rim of the glass. Tastes good, not terribly bitter, but just enough hops to keep it interesting. Sweet aftertaste to it as well. Not the best black-n-tan I ever had, but not bad either.
