This is yet another brewer that I have never come across that I was able to experience at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. Add to that the fact that I’ve wanted to try this beer for some time now. Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a massive, nearly explosive tan head. That’s not a good sign. Harsh metallic aroma with a few wisps of chocolate managing to sneak through. The flavor confirms it: this beer is infected. Harsh metallic flavor with some mild chocolate. Dammit, that is very disappointing. Rated as it is for now and hopefully I will have another opportunity to sample this beer.

Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. Pours a deep black with a medium beige head comprised of clunky soda bubbles. Smells of rubbing alcohol and cocoa powder. Something is either wrong with this bottle, or wrong with me, because this is quite bad. I’d been looking forward to this beer for a long time and was amazed to see it turn up... but man oh man... it was bad. Couldn’t finish it, and nearly spewed it right out of my mouth... I had worse beers, but nothing that I couldn’t put down. This was a big disappointment. A big chocolaty disappointment.

Bottle. Dammit this is freaking infected tasted like moth and metallic tin with a coffee head. I’ll give this a middle score just because I’m sure its better than the 0.5 drain pour that i wrote, until i have a chance to revisit this in its proper serving state.

Aroma really is choc donuts. Me: "what do you think" Sleepy:"it is what it is, ya know" Well put, lopes. To be honest, this beer was not balanced, at all. Really, just over carbonated. Alcohol hidden, seltzery carbonation, sweet candied malt, chocolate.

4/25/2009: Shenandoah Chocolate Donut Stout is brown in color with a hint of fruity malt and a weird sweetness. This beer really tastes more like a jelly doughnut rather than a chocolate one! Very disappointing.

Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #100 for this beer.

This beer was amazing. the nose on this thing wow. Like you just opened a pack of those cheap waxy corner store chocolate gem donuts. The color was pretty dark, brownish to almost completely black. the taste was incredible. I wanted a glass of milk to wash the donuts down. If you can not taste the donuts in this then try another bottle. I would prolly not buy this regularly, but this is a good example to show friends who think beer is your standard american lager the difference and what can be done with beer Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-09-2008 09:19:30

Bottle acquired via trade with nimbleprop. THANKS AGAIN ANDREW!!! A lot of Nestle Quik, both in the aroma and definitely in the flavor. Also included are molasses, chocolate, and roasted malt. HUGE 3/4 GLASS head with a 1/4 glass murky caramel body. Fairly thin...not a favorite.
