Pours a clear dark brown body under a fizzy light beige head that lasted quite a while due to the vigorous carbonation. The nose is nice and chocolaty, and it does actually have a bit of a cake-like note. Roast and coffee with just a little hint of burnt grain. The flavor is quite sweet with a good bit of chocolate syrup like flavor. Some lighter roastiness on the finish and a slight cola like flavor that seems a bit out of place. The palate suffers quite a bit from the very fizzy over active carbonation that makes it seem a little too thin. Overall, this was largely a marketing thing over a true taste experience. I’ve had lots of worse Stouts though, so I can’t complain too much. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The nose is sweet, very sweet viscous chocolate, donut aroma definitely present. The flavor is very similar, thickly sweet, chocolatey, sweet donut. The mouthfeel is thick and sweet. ucusty (1921), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

Malty backbone with definite chocolate donut flavors. Very unique and interesting after4ever (2840), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours black with a thick, towering, surging, very light tan head full of mousse and air bubbles. Sweet chocolate, prune, and a whiff of tart on the nose. The tart may or may not be a not-so-great sign. Watery, fairly thin body with heavily astringent, chalky semi-sweet chocolate notes. Very drying. Powdery finish. Odd. Kind of the opposite of refreshing, which certainly is fine, but I think this might be a little too far off in the direction of trying to resemble food and not close enough to the home base of trying to resemble beer. Drinkable enough, though, and interesting for sure. redlight (1499), Winter Park, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 10, 2008 thanks to beerlando for this. Smells of chocolate cake donuts with chocolate frosting. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. The flavor does taste like chocolate donut with a creamy coffee, roasty and sweet flavors. Good beer. riversideAK (2803), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 9, 2008 From glkaiser. Thanks Geoff. Dark brown brew with a nice lasting foamy head. Aroma is pretty chocolatey with a little roast. Sadly I don’t get any donut. Chocolate, roast, a little salt, bread. Interesting chocolate bready notes. There is a nice chocolate essence that lingers. Might be a little thin. Has a smooth carbonation. Very interesting brew that I am glad I got to taste. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA

Very dark brown pour with a moderately thick persistent dark tan head. Vague chocolately aroma, light roast, pound cake. As it warmed, I picked up more of the sweet glaze aroma. Taste is interesting - bready, almost gingerbread-like notes, slight hop finish. Pretty sweet and unique brew. TURDFERGUSON (1608), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

Nose is salty, cake, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is where this beer goes south for me. Sugary and salty and ugh. Not a fan. Was really hoping to be surprised and like this beer (especially considering the somewhat high ratings it has been receiving), but it just wasn’t for me.
