| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Dark brown, creamy light tan head. Faint chocolate cake nose with just a touch of caramel. Tangy lactic cocoa flavors round with a light fruity bitterness. Light bodied and thin, medium carbonation, soft chocolate finish. On draft many years ago, this was really nice. Bottle version here is quite the disappointment though. Either way, thanks for sharing kmweaver! Odeed (1675), Bakersfield, California, USA

I recieved this in a recent trade with HopHeed2113, thanks a lot Rob. A chocolate Donut flavored Stout. If that’s not catchy I don’t know what is. Chocolate Donut Stout empties the bottle the darkest of browns bordering on black. Chestnut highlights adorn the edges of the glass when backlit. A microbubbled beige head grew to two fingers on an aggressive pour but quickly fell to a creamy cap. There’s a patch or two of lacing here and there after each drink.
There’s some roastiness throughout the smell but it’s unreal how the brewers captured the smell of a chocolate covered donut. There’s plenty of cake like donut with even more of that sugary sweet chocolate topping. Everytime I bring my nose to the glass I have a flashback of biting into a chocolate donut complete with the small crust that forms on the chocolate. I think it’s pretty impressive jamming that into a beer bottle.
The flavor isn’t quite as donuty intense as the aroma would suggest. As a matter of fact I’m glad it’s not because I think it would have been overwhelming. The roastiness is present with an enjoyable cake like breadiness. The chocolate is throughout but stands out on the backend as a sweet milk chocolate. Not a bad stout and interesting to say the least.
Smooth creamy mouthfeel that, and I’m just being picky here, could use a touch more body. There’s some stickiness on the swallow that I could do without but overall the mouthfeel fits the beer pretty well.
This bottle goes down easy and is quite enjoyable. I’d imagine drinking more than two or three in a sitting would be a little much.
An interesting beer I’ve been searching out for a couple months now. I love the whole concept and it’s actually a good stout that I wouldn’t mind getting a few more bottles of even if just for the novelty factor.

The nose is very light with a hint of chocolate, dough and raisins. The flavor is moderately sweet with chocolate, molasses, grainy malt and grape juice. Medium body is thin with high carbonation. A little bit thin for a stout and not quite as dark as I was expecting, humongous head though.... Smells like those chocolate covered donuts from Hostess to me. Tastes like them as well. A little cloying but I still enjoyed this one quite a bit. Don’t know how they pulled this one off but they did a good job with it! Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 23, 2008 12 oz. brown bottle bought at the brewery. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark chocolate brown, with red highlights around the edges. Sticky tan head. Aromas are of chocolate essence, like the kind they use in chocolate candles & the like.
Flavors are of Entenmann’s donuts, the chocolate covered, chocolate cake inside kind. Some cocoa powder in the mix. Nothing like hops at all. Alcohol is well hidden. Tasty, but nothing to write home about. pantanap (1354), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2008 bottle thanks to kmweaver.....pours a dark brown with light brown tones on the edges, topped off with an off-white head....aromas of chocolate, cocoa, and not much of anything else.....flavors of chocolate and a strange burnt sour presence that i took to be a little off-putting.....a nice try but it all doesn’t work well together. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2008 12oz from zathrus13 - thanks, Jeff!! Pours just slightly thinner than I expected, with a crisp and frothy cappuccino color head atop a deep dark body (can just slightly see through this one). The aroma is more standard chocolate malts than donuts, which is just fine. But I’ll be damned if there isn’t some Hostess goodness in there once you get into the flavor. Cheapies like Immy said, but it’s there for sure. The stout itself isn’t bad either, with a very slight hint of dark fruit that seems to contrast unfavorably with the rest of the brew. Not a big deal though. Overall, this one really works and is very enjoyable.
