egajdzis (2865), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 Poured a dark mahogany color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, cocoa, and light smoke. Taste was roasty, a bit of chocolate, and smoke, with light vanilla bean. Not quite as creamy as the Oak Barrel Stout...
hopdog (4347), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2008 12oz bottle acquired in trade with kmweaver (thanks!). Tasted side by side with the Oaked version. Poured a dark brown color wtih a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, and vanilla. Tastes of roast, chocolate, and some nuts. TomDecapolis (2318), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 Thanks to hopdog. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a very small bubbly off white head. Aroma of light chocolate, caramel, toffee and some nuts. Flavor of roasted malt, earthy, caramel and some nuts. kmweaver (1770), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a very dark, cola-brown color; light tan head with solid retention and medium-bubbled lacing. Light aroma, with roasted malts and dark chocolate upfront; a touch of oily smokiness, perhaps. Medium mouthfeel: average carbonation; not watery, but certainly light-bodied stout: roasted malts and dark chocolate; a touch of char and caramel; not bad at all, really, and perhaps suggestive that recent batches have gotten better. A very drinkable, reasonably tasty stout. Medium finish, showing roasted malts, bread, and some doughy / toastiness. skibumdc (5), Alexandria, Virginia, USA does not count Mar 11, 2008 IMPROPERLY POURED! They used straight co2 instead of "beergas" Nitrogen/Co2 mix, so no frothy head like I prefer with a stout.
Not much aroma, nice deep dark color.
Too carbonated due to straight co2 mixture which took away from the flavor.
I would like to retry this beer when I return with the proper pour.
