| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 8, 2007 Bottle, some liveliness in the pour for a clear amber colour with a frothy off-white head that quickly disappeared. A rich and sweet malty aroma - some caramal and Christmas cake notes. Some fizz in the mouth and an unfortunate metallicness. Sweet and malty flavours, a bit too sweet. A tanginess in the finish as well that just doesn’t quite work. Another OK beer from Shepherd Neame - but that’s all. Stew41 (1053), Caulfield, Australia
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Fairly standard in appearance - darkish amber with a thin head. Soft malts with some noticeable sweetness. Similar in the palate early but sharpens considerably with a bitter kick at the finish. stouby (1950), Holbaek, Denmark

This seems to get good ratings, but, for me, this is one of the Neame’s poorer efforts. It’s strong, I’ll give it that, but is too sweet and caremel for my liking. I still drunk it, of course, but if I were to have a Neame tomorrow, I’d rather have a Late Red, Masterbrew or, even, their flagship Spitfire ale. Also, watch out for the crystallisation in the bottom of the bottle: sedimentary, my dear Watson! berkshirejohn (1830), Bracknell, Berkshire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2006 Bottle conditioned: brilliant gold colour with no head, this may have been due to the careful pouring to avoid the light sediment - light carbonation provides some live; typical Shepherd Neame yeasty aroma, strong hoppy taste but not overwhelming; not too bitter either. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2006 A rich zesty pint with a subtle but fruity nose and caramel adter-taste. Slightly cloying but still a decent drink.
