| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 10, 2008 Bottled. A rich brown headless beer. You can see the yeast in the bottle, but it has cardboardy pasteurized flavours. Toffee, fruit caramel and a bit of wood. Boiled sweets and really chewy malt. You’d think after 310 years they could do better than this wouldn’t you? MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2008 Bottle (500ml). Poured a chestnut brown (deep copper?) with a small, dense, rocky off-white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of roasted caramel malts with sweet toffee, cooked nuts, blackberries, some earth/wood notes and suggestions of ripe bananas. Flavor was a good (dirty) hop bitterness with dates (as well as other dried mixed fruits), roasted toffee malts, chewy caramel, tart black berries, some sappy/woody notes, faint notes of marmalade and an dry earthy finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a very dry (almost resin-like) mouthfeel, mildy syrupy texture (more chewy) and a great lasting finish. My favorite from Shepherd Neame. azlondon (667), Fribourg, Switzerland

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 30, 2008 500 ml bottle. Pours a clear coppery color with a low off-white head. Plenty of hops in the aroma, with undertones of sweet malts. The taste is reasonably sweet, but balanced by substantial bitterness. Fairly creamy mouthfeel. Not bad at all. Allen (1430), Switzerland
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Bottled 50cl. It pours a clear copper beer with a tanned fizzy head. The nose is of malt, apples, caramel, burnt plastic and earthy hops accompanied by a metallic note. Quite present alcohol. Malty flavor. Buttery. Slightly hoppy. Peppery. Hints of nuts. Smooth mouthfeel. Metallic. Hops appearing in the finish. SilkTork (4191), Rochester, Kent, England

May, 2008. Bottle conditioned. A clean ale with an attractive glowing copper-brown colour. There is little character in this beer, but it has a gentle and pleasant toffee malt well infused with a hop bitterness. There is no fragrance to the hops - they are used mainly for bittering. The alcohol is felt in terms of the alcohol fumes, edging on chemical, but just about held back to a warm malt verging on whiskey. It’s a pleasant beer, though lacking in distinct character. Difficult to believe it is bottle conditioned. [3.2] mikkopen (270), Oulu, Finland
