Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Bottle. Clear, golden beer with an off-white head. Quite malty nose, with just a little hoppiness. Malt-dominated flavor as well, some roast as well, and some bitterness. Malty and fruity finish. Medium to full body. Quite pleasant one, but a bit too focused on the maltyness. Rating: 6-4-6-4-13-3.3. 070602

Bottle. It pours a clear, quite dark golden body under half an inch of off-white head. Some lacings as the beer disappeares. The aroma is quite bready and malty, slightly roasted and with some caramel. A little cheesy hop touch as well. The flavor is also on the bready side, dark bread of course, with balancing hops, caramel and roast, and in my opinion, a little too less bitterness. Still, this more or less full-bodied is a quite nice one, but I prefer this style a bit more balanced or hop-dominated. Anyway, it’s still quenching and moreish. 090919

Note to self: Two "4’s" in a row. Weird. /note

Poured a ruby tinted copper with a holding, creamy ecru head leaving a coating of lace all the way down. Extract-brew maltiness with a touch of wood and light roasts. I like. English malts dominate English hops, but it’s a delicious struggle. Wychwood wanted to do this with Hobgoblin but couldn’t achieve the same quality result. A very well-made ESB. Bully!     (P.S.: Heidi liked this and would have given it a 19 or 20 as a Strong or Bitter. Plus she likes the fact that she tasted the Bishop’s finger. Sicko.)

On draft at the Dubliner in Gothenburg, but not the cask version. Interesting beer. Clear golden color with a small head. Some caramel and malt in the aroma. Didn’t really seem like a bitter. MIght have been a bad keg, because it seemed a little sour.

Nice head and a dark amber color with a malty aroma with a hint of cheese. The flavour is sweetish malty with hints of licorice and caramel and a nice bitter finish. Ok and easy to drink.

Bottle purchased in Cork City, IRE. Amber brown, with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, roasty, light alcohol, dried fruit, and raisins. Lightly hoppy taste, with caramel, slightly mettalic.

Pours a nice frothy white head which sits atop a copper colour body. I am not a big fan of the hops used in the beer; for aroma and flavour, I find them a bit overpowering. I found the finish slightly too dry and a bit like pine. A decent beer which is probably must better in cask, or maybe I’d enjoy this beer on another day.
